  • Iceland 2016

    Published 23/03/16

Once again the Geology Department undertook an Arctic experience visiting the volcanoes, tectonics and glaciers of Iceland. The trip was led by Mr Lyons, Mr Richards and Miss Talbot with 24 wonderful pupils who were a real credit to the school. We arrived at Keflavik airport and went straight to the Blue Lagoon for an afternoon of relaxation. The students found themselves skirting volcanoes such as Kerio, the mighty Katla and Eyjafyallajokull. They walked on the volcanic black beaches at Dyrholaey and investigated the fast disappearing glaciers of the Myrdalsjokull ice cap. They also spent time at the wonderful Glacier Lagoon and witnessed the parting of the continents at Pingvellir. Perhaps the highlight of the trip was the appearance of the ‘Northern Lights.’

  • Sixth Form Vs Staff Hockey Match

    Published 22/03/16

On Friday, 18th March, the Teachers and Sixth Form took part in a hockey match in aid of Sport Relief. In what turned out to be a one-sided match, both teams fought hard, despite the Sixth Form team questioning whether or not hockey was a real sport!  After five minutes, the teachers bagged a goal, despite the Sixth Form defence’s best efforts and some good play then resulted in Mr Thomas scoring on the brink of half time.

Play resumed, with the teachers comfortably 2-0 ahead. After a quiet period, the teachers were gifted a goal due to a goalkeeping error. The Sixth Form hit back though, with James Bevan tucking the ball in at the far post. However, the Sixth Former's  chance of a comeback was crushed by a 4th goal for the teachers.

The game finished 4-1 in favour of the teachers, after an end to end match (and some questionable tactics from the PE staff!)

  • Message from Community Support Officer Matt Pearce

    Published 21/03/16

Caerphilly Town Centre is currently having problems with youths partaking in an activity referred to as ‘Free-running’. Even though their behaviour is reckless we’re obviously concerned for their safety.

There will be a Free-running taster session at Caerphilly Leisure Centre on 10th April where the aim is to signpost youths to suitable venues where they can partake in this activity in a safe environment.

There will also be an educational thread to the event as well, regarding the dangers involved.

  • New School Uniform Policy from September 2016

    Published 21/03/16

Following extensive consultation and a meeting of the school's governing body, changes to the school uniform have been agreed and the new uniform policy adopted. The policy will be effective from 1st September 2016

A copy of the school's new uniform policy is attached.

Please note, it has been decided that, in its first year of implementation, school blazers will be optional in years 11 and 13 as we understand it may be the final year at St Martins for some pupils. School blazers must be worn by all other year groups.
