  • School Categorisation - Green Status!

    St Martin's staff celebrated the attainment of green status in the national categorisation of schools today. The journey from Red category and Estyn monitoring in 2014 to Green in 2019 along with a good Estyn inspection report this summer and the highest pupil attainment in the schools history is testimony to exceptional efforts of teaching and support staff working in partnership with parents.

  • GCSE 2019

    St Martin's GCSE press release 2019

    Congratulations to St. Martin’s GCSE students on attaining another exceptional year of results. 174 students, equating to 85.6% of those sitting GCSEs this year attained 5 grades C or above.  73% when including English and Mathematics. 

    More students than ever before attained 5 GCSEs at A* and A with 27% of all those entered achieving this accolade compared to 17% in 2018

    The English faculty attained the highest results ever with 82.1% achieving a C or above in English.  For students studying Mathematics, which has long been a strong performing subject within the school, attainment was high once again this year and above Welsh government modelled expectations with 78.7% of students achieving a C or above. 

    The exceptional attainment was not limited to GCSE alone but testimony to the school’s pursuit of challenge for all students. This was also exemplified in the achievement of 37 Year 11 students who sat Mathematics A level alongside their GCSEs, of which 27 gained a passes ranging from A-C.

    These talented individuals will no doubt be our future engineers, scientists and mathematical theorists. Well done to all.  The subject of Mathematics has laid the preparations for future success within the schools Sixth Form Centre. 

    43 students were also entered for additional mathematics with 72% attaining an A* or A grade.
    Science results were also the highest ever in the school’s history with 77% of students gaining a C or above compared to 60.9% in 2018.

    The capped 9 points score rose this year to 403.21 from 369.

    Congratulations to the students and staff at our school who have worked tirelessly to attain such impressive results and thank you to the parents who have worked in such a close partnership with us throughout the years.  Looking forward to welcoming the majority of Year 11 into the Sixth Form from September.

    Exceptional outcomes have been achieved at St​.​ Martin​'​s Sixth Form Centre once again as the school​ continues to​ go from strength to strength. A​s a growing ​s​ixth ​f​orm provider within Caerphilly with a total of 118 learners, strong academic success and impressive facili​​t​ies​ w​e are​ proud to announce that 92% of learners​ have​ achieved the level 3 threshold of 2A level passes this year. The number of learners attaining 3A*-C also rose by 7% to 62% of the year group. There was 100% pass rate in all 19 out of the 21 subjects studied by students this year.

    ​All students​ have​ obtained the grades required to progress ​onto their ​​diverse ​higher education ​courses, chosen career ​​pathways, apprenticeships and work placements.  

    Mr Jarvis​,​ Head teacher​,​ congratulated the ​s​ixth ​f​orm students on another exceptional year of results and wished the​m ​well as they begin the next exciting chapter in their lives, knowing that they are now fully prepared for life beyond St​.​ Martin​'​s.

    The outstanding results were not limited to Year 13 with high standards being set by year 12 with notable high achievers being​:​

    Chloe Beacham achieved 3As ​in ​Eng​lish​ Literature, Geography and Media studies  

    Ellie Davies​ secured​ 3 A grades in Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics

    Sean Kedward​ gained​ 2As In Business Studies and Mathematics

    Jack Pedley ​achieved ​2A ​​grades a B and C Biology, Geography and ICT

    Lucas Rees ​achieved ​2 ​​A grades and a B grade in Biology, Mathematics and History

    The leaders of the ​s​ixth ​f​orm​,​ Miss Hopkins and Miss M​c​Callion stated​,​ ​"​It is wonderful to be leading the school​'​s Sixth Form Centre, which is at the heart of our community and so highly regarded within the area as a leading provider of Post-16 courses.​"​

    The governing body are highly supportive and have heavily invested in the facilities at the school which have been further enhanced this year by the creation of larger spaces for independent study and reflection. The highly skilled and experienced Sixth Form team of teachers provides quality provision within small class sizes which gives our students personalised support and guidance at such a critical time in their lives.

    Providing personalised tutoring, within small class sizes enables teachers to give our students the individual attention and guidance that they require at this stage in their lives when they are studying at such a high level. Coupl​ing​ this with the impressive facilities available to all learners are the key ingredients for success at this level​.​

  • End of Term information for Parents

    Please see the following information for Parents:
     
    Last day of the summer term: Tuesday, 16th July, 1.40pm finish for pupils. 
     
    First day of the Autumn Term 2019-20 for All Pupils (Year 7-11): Wednesday, 4 September at 8.30am
     
    5th September is enrolment for sixth form, lessons start on the 6th September.
     
    INSET Days: Monday 2nd September, Tuesday 3rd September
     
    Opening times during the holidays: 
    The Finance Office will be open from 10-12pm for purchase and collection of uniform on the following dates:
     
    • Wednesday 17 July to Tuesday 23 July 
    • Monday 5 August to Friday 9 August
    • Monday 26 August onwards
    EXAMS:
    • A Level Results day: Thursday, 15th August
    • GCSE Results day: Thursday, 22 August

    Results will be available from 9am-11am from the school hall 

    If you are unable to collect your results on these days your result slip will be available from the Finance Office after the appropriate results day.  Please note the holiday opening times.

    If you can't pick up your results in person you must either provide a stamped addressed envelope prior to the day (small letter size) or nominate someone to collect them on your behalf and provide them with a written note to bring with them on the day.
